Don’t forget to book for Geography Subject knowledge enhancement for non-specialists 2024 (Key Stage 3 focus)
Recruitment of high quality teaching staff presents a significant challenge for schools in Hampshire, as it does nationally. Our new subject knowledge enhancement course is for non-specialists, across all core and EBacc subjects, as well as RE.
This training will:
- Support those recently in post, as well as provide preparation support for those who may be taking up a new post in September 2024.
- Equip teachers with the knowledge and skills required to effectively deliver high quality lessons in the chosen subject.
- Focus on Key Stage 3 teaching principally, whilst offering the requisite level of skill and knowledge to facilitate further development towards the teaching of Key Stage 4 over time.
Participants will need some prior knowledge of the chosen subject.

Termly network meetings are aimed at those responsible for leading and managing geography in primary schools. Geography leaders will develop their subject knowledge and an understanding of strong progression and sequencing to support geography curriculum development in their school while gathering inspiring and creative ideas for leading and managing the teaching of outstanding geography.
Additionally, the network ensures co-ordinators have an effective forum to discuss and share approaches to curriculum implementation, assessment, and monitoring, and to be informed by current research.
These termly network meetings focus on arising themes such as developing fieldwork, assessment, curriculum design and supporting students with SEND.

The primary aims of the subject network meetings are to:
- Ensure a clear understanding of the national picture and its application in local and school contexts.
- Support effective subject leadership as appropriate to each school’s individual context.
- Develop skills, expertise, and capacity within school subject leaders and their teams through quality strategic CPD and the sharing of good practice.
- Deepen understanding of subject specific pedagogy and knowledge that underpins good progress and attainment for ALL pupils.
- Facilitate school to school networking and develop strength across the system.
